I read a recent article (24 nov 2018) on the CNN website headed ..
“How great is the climate threat?”
the article goes on to say that
“A report released in October by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) – the leading international body evaluating climate change – said it could only be stopped if the world made major, and costly, changes.
That means reducing global emissions of CO2 by 45% from 2010 levels by 2030, and reducing coal use to almost zero, and using up to seven million sq km (2.7 million square miles) for land energy crops. If the world fails to act, the researchers warned, there would be some significant and dangerous changes to our world, including rising sea levels, significant impacts on ocean temperatures and acidity, and the ability to grow crops such as rice, maize and wheat.” More recently, even our our poor COws and Pigs are being targetted for their supposed contribution to the looming Climate Change disaster.
So how do we “mere mortals” interpret this? Yes. Whilst we can all try to accept all things at face value, and believe others opinions in front of our own. This blind acceptance of others opinions (scientific or otherwise), is not necessarily always correct, nor may this be a smart thing for us to do in the long term, and for everyone’s sake… Just watch a few episodes of “Game of Thrones” if you want to see where the real loyalties lay, for all the lieutants and advisers, and the reasons behind the decisions they are giving suggestions or aid to their King/Queen or commander, and whose to say if the King/Queen or Commander are doing a cracker of a job in their own right either. Often, its certainly not about us….
Anyway …
Lets agree on one thing, we have a lot smart people in the world … and not necessarily are all of them going to be found working for, or in the Government, nor may they even be part of the typical scientific community.
Too be frank, and I appreciate that this can often be at a cost of personal criticism to themselves …. we need to hear from these people, people with no financial interest, people with no bias, and people with no direct personal investment or funding tied to this issue from either side, people genuinely concerned, global citizen like the rest of us..
Whilst not wanting to be poltical with this article, the recent Trump politics promised change, but reverted to old ideas that were aimed at destroying globalisation and highlighted the is obviously all about “showing us the money” in lieu of any other issues fullstop. Stick with coal mate, and everything will be just great.
The Paris Accord, on the other hand appears to be the only real alternative currently on the table, and many Governments are trying to do something we think.
Well maybe not …
One view, is that considering many of the climate change activists are also financially linked to their opinions, this means that basically they write, or give their opinons in a formal documents, to the very people who pay them and have requested them to write this. These views can be either pro or against climate change.
Well. Who’s right?
Well, that’s a good reason why, we all need to think about these issues ourselves, and to listen to, and hear from people, with no financial stake in the climate change policy money making machine.
I am not a cynic, but I certainly would like more answers in plain english to understand the issue, as no doubt, do many other people.
Firstly, if I was to question the various scientific claims about climate change, my first questions would be these?
based on the following:
- Assuming water expands by around 9-10% when it freezes, (and as evident when a bottle of water expands when it freezes in your freezer, and might result with the lid explodes off the bottle, or should the ice force the bottle to crack open).
- Furthermore, if we are too believe, that as an average Iceberg hides somewhere between 80% to 90% (approx) of its total mass underwater! Wouldnt this mean, that when the ice actually melts, the net result between expansion and contraction of the ice, equals pretty much a level water level. (ie. the amount of ice on top of the water, would go back to same position before the water froze)
- YES, this is a simplistic concept, and I note that I got the values for ice displacement off a few different sites I found on google, but hopefully, it clearly shows my point in question.
How, do the Climate Change Advisers and Scientists, establish and support, their claim for rising sea levels, as a result of climate change, and the polar ice bergs melting. Are they expecting a big tide of water coming from the Himilayas and snow capped mountains?
Lastly, I believe (and with absolutely zero scientific evidence to back me up). That the total amount of water that we have on earth must be 100% finite.
For me, this means, there is a definite, and fixed volume of water at all times somewhere on earth, and that this total volume, cant change. YES. Let’s agree, water can be stored in hundreds of places, under ground, in dams and tanks, in oceans and rivers, in bottles, in car radiators, in our bodies, and in animals etc. Even as ice in our fridges or humidity in the atmosphere or in the clouds in the sky, before its rains down.
If this belief is tue, then, despite where the water might be found today. We would be unable to make any more water than existed yesterday, and we cant remove any water permanently either, to change this balance.
Hey, I fully accept, that I can be 100% wrong on all of this, and this is why I am expressing my view for open discussion. Importantly, I certainly welcome and encourage someone, to show me to scientifically, the error of my thinking in this respect… Truly.
But based on my experience, and based on what I see around me with my own eyes, and I am regularly at beach. For me, the sea levels dont appear to have changed at any of the beaches. Beaches, that I have been going to for many years in Australia. They simply dont appear, to have changed at all, and nor has the ocean/sea level, on a like for like beach terrain, appear to have raised noticeably.
YES. Indeed land can certainly sink, just as some land can be raised over time. Generally, such occurences are more likely to happen, if the country or island, is located on, or near, a continental shelf or tectonic plate etc. This action, unsurpisingly, is a result of the earths ow tectonic movements. I personally, have not seen this occurence happening along the eastern seaboard of Australia.
My basic premise for this believe is this.
When I lived with my parents. We used to have a Plant Terrarium. This was an elongated large bottle / jar, with a large cork cap that was used for opening or closing the jar. The jar was about 50 or 60cm (24 inches) round, and about 25 cm (12 inches) high. Inside this, Mum planted some evergreen type plants in the soil, put some decorations and stone inside as well, watered it for the first time, and then put the cork on to seal the jar. We pretty much never touched it again. (yes a few plants died as a result of poor plant selection in the first instance, but this Terrarium was a basically a self contained world, much like the bigger picture, being our earth, that revolves around inside the various atmospheres that lock in our air in space.
In our world, “the Earth”, the water evaporates, and goes into the atmosphere, as a result of the suns heat. The water cools, as a result of many factors, and comes back down to the earth as rain, hail, snow and storms etc. Some of this water downpour is then stored in our lakes and oceans, under the ground etc, in humans and animals (we are basically a walking sponge, full of water, and there are around 7.2 Billion humans holding onto lots of water etc). And then, the cycle starts all over again.
Whilst scientists, and others, might argue the semantics behind all this. The bottom line is, that I believe, this is pretty much the cycle as to how the earths water works.
Anyway. That enough on this for now. Hopefully we just might hear from someone with a more scientific response, rather then my personal, unfactual and non scientific opinion, that I currently believe.
